so I was thinking about training, and what is better the bulgarian style that is very basic with the lifts and squats, or the russian style that is full of assistance work. I have a friend and training partner that is in china training with their team right now, and did before, and I know they do LOTS of assistance work. I was wondering if any of you know what other countries are doing work with pulls, and wich ones are doing the strait snatch, clean, squat deal. Im just kind of curious as to who is doing what.

From what I know now is, bulgarian style is : bulgaria (duh), greece did not sure if they kept doing that or not. and I heard Iran. With the heavy assitance work I believe its: former USSR, current russia, poland, china. anyone know others?

Hey everyone,

I recently injured my wrist while doing some thrusters...it's nothing serious but it's just a real pain in the a** to train with it. I tape and wrap it each session but am still limited in my range of motion. I can't do the oly lifts which sucks because I'm supposed to hit up a meet in early October. At the moment I can still back squat, front squat with the arms crossed over the rack position, deadlift, do the pulls, and do some light bench (flat, incline, and decline), any other ideas? any input would help,

I have been IFing via the leangains approach for the past few weeks while doing strength 3-4x and metcons 4-5x a week and have had improvements in body composition but a slight decrease in performance particularly in the strength department. I realize Martins approach is geared more towards improving body composition. If my primary goal is just increased performance should I just ditch the IF altogether? I feel great fasting and usually do my workouts fasted after taking 10g BCAAs. Is this perhaps not enough fuel for strength + metcons? Thanks.

I have 2 of Pendlay's original mens bars, that have unfortunately stopped spinning freely and bind to the point where it's extremely noticeable during lifts.

Looking at Muscledriver's site, it looks like only catastrophic damage is covered by warranty.

So, any suggestions on how to get these bars moving freely again?

A Couple of Insulin Sensitivity Questions

I'm doing the whole paleo schtick, trying to work on my insulin sensitivity after spending most of the summer messing it up.

I usually only eat two meals per day. About 6 eggs and a piece of fruit or a couple of carrots or peppers in the morning (or noon, depending on how late I'm running in the morning). And then my other meal is some kind of meat, as much of it as I can eat, along with some veggies or a piece of fruit if I'm lazy.

I usually don't have the opportunity to eat until an hour, usually two, after my workouts and I'm thinking this might be affecting my gains. Strength gain (or at least maintenance) and insulin sensitivity being the main goal.

I'm wondering if this may be fucking up not just my performance but my insulin sensitivity as well. I've heard conflicting opinions on this, some saying that not eating for an hour after your workout is good for your insulin sensitivity, yet others like Robb Wolf (if I remember correctly) advocate that a good post-workout meal, including the bulk of your carbs for the day, is good for performance while not affecting your insulin sensitivity markedly.

Now, real foods are not an option right now post-workout and I'm staying away from dairy. But I'm wondering if I should consider getting some whey protein to take in after my workouts or if doing so would defeat the purpose of staying away from dairy or even increase my insulin resistance?

If I do go the whey route, should I go for just regular whey, or whey isolate, or what?

Hello all,

I'm planning to start up 5/3/1 here soon and was looking for some feedback on the assistance choices.

Day 1:
Press 5/3/1
Assistance:
Chins between all Pressing sets
Incline Bench 3-5*10
Ring Dips 3-5*10
Conditioning

Day 2:
Deadlift 5/3/1
Assistance:
(Warm Up) Power Snatch 8*2*Min
Front Squats 3-5*8-10
Leg Raises 3*F
Short Metcon

Day 3:
Rest

Day 4:
Bench 5/3/1
BB Rows 3-5*10
Ring Push Ups 3-5*10
Gymnastics Ring Work

Day 5:
Squat 5/3/1
Assistance:
Good Mornings 3-5*10
Abs
Metcon

Day 6 & 7:
Rest

All conditioning and metcons will be as recovery will allow, I'm looking to lean out a little so I will need to be conservative on things. I am starting with 80-85% rather then 90% for the start, and will see how I progress from there. My diet is mostly paleo aside from when I don't have a choice when traveling. Sleep is usually 7-9 hours a night. Any metcons I do decide to do will either be made up by myself or something from CFFB.

I kept everything during the work week because that is what seems to fit best with my schedule...weekends are usually full of time with the wife and kids or working around the house.

Comments are welcome...

I've been taking 500mg non-time release vitamin C PWO to help with cortisol, and have found that it does help a little. I may start taking it before bed as well to see what happens. I am using it instead of BCAAs because BCAAs are too expensive.

Would it be better to get those time released pills so that I have something acting against cortisol for a longer period of time? And would powders work better than pills?
